Itinerary 3 - Tourist Route 10
Wollongong to Lake Illawarra

The amazing Nan Tien TempleTravelling south from Wollongong along the F6 Freeway the Five Islands Road exit ramp reveals an almost seemingly clash of cultures as the largest Buddhist Temple in the Southern Hemisphere appears settled into the hills overlooking the mountains of Kembla & Keira. The Nan Tien Temple, which translates to (Paradise of the South) offers the visitor the opportunity to meditate and explore the teachings of Buddha. Or simply enjoy it's unique surroundings. Accommodation is available in the modern setting of the on site Pilgrim Lodge 100 room motel. The Nan Tien Temple also offers state of the art conference facilities. Literally just over the hill from the temple we can step back into our mechanical past with a visit to the Illawarra Motoring Museum, to experience a changing display of antique motor vehicles, motorcycles and automobilia, also on permanent display are signs, tools and accessories. Next door to the museum you can sample a taste of Germany in Wollongong at the AGA Germania Club and across the road is the Kembla Grange Racecourse where you can back a winner on a regular basis.

Northcliffe Drive provides an easy route to cut back across to the coast through the thriving shopping area of Warrawong and south along Shellharbour Road where there is a range of accommodation nearby including holiday parks and motels. The Comfort Inn Fairways Resort offers resort style motel & holiday park facilities. For the golf fanatic the Fairways Resort is located on the course at the tenth.

Lake Illawarra provides an abundance of fresh prawns in season, and fish all year round. Along with the various water sports including sailing, skiing and windsurfing. The Lake can be accessed from various locations right around the foreshores.
