Wollongong Central
Part Two - Heart and Soul of the City

Heart and Soul of the CityThe Wollongong City Mall is a dynamic and exciting outlet for a wide range of shopping, dining, entertainment and cultural experiences. It has long been a favourite meeting spot for locals, who love to sit at the 'al fresco' eateries and enjoy high calibre, daytime entertainment staged in the mall amphitheatre.

A Dam Good Attraction!

The Sydney Catchment Authority welcomes visitors to its dams and picnic areas. The authority manages a complex network of dams, reservoirs and catchments to provide a reliable source of quality drinking water to the Illawarra. The three dams in the region are the Avon, Cataract and Cordeaux.

Picnic areas located near the dams are set amongst natural bushland. All are outfitted with shelter sheds, shade trees, barbecues and playgrounds for children. Where possible, facilities are provided for people with disabilities.

Superb Mountain ViewsSuperb Mountain Views

Forests along the escarpment, once ravaged for their cedar, are now used for recreation. The Scout Camp located in the spectacular rainforest at Mount Keira attracts thousands of visitors each year. Many choose to explore one or many of the scenic bushwalking tracks that traverse the area.

This pastoral location spawns a progression of beautiful wild flowers which bloom throughout the year. Strongly scented boronias, velvet-petalled flannel flowers, wax-like Christmas bells and regal waratahs, the floral emblem of New South Wales, can all be found in this magical bushland setting when in season.

Higher up, Mount Keira lookout affords panoramic views of the metropolis below and to the north of the city. For the more energetic, there is a choice of scenic walking tracks to suit all levels of fitness. The lookout also boasts a great restaurant, catering for light snacks & morning tea's to a la carte & weddings.
